Smart Swords / Interaction map
From a swing
to a story.
An object, its electronics, and a companion iOS game—designed as one interaction.
-
Swing
A physical action
The player moves the sword. The object in their hand is part of the game interaction.
-
Electronics
Custom hardware
Custom electronics and a PCB connect the physical object to its digital behavior. My work spanned the electronics and the companion software.
-
Connection
A connected toy
The sword and companion iOS experience form one connected product, linking the object in your hand to the game on your phone.
-
Game response
A digital consequence
The physical swing connects to progress in a fantasy game. Physical action becomes part of what happens on screen.
Custom electronics & PCB iOS experience 3D printing & laser cutting
The interaction behind our Kickstarter-funded product. Co-created with Tony Maligno; 100 swords produced together.
A physical action, a digital consequence
With Tony Maligno, I co-created Smart Swords: a connected sword and companion fantasy game. The interaction linked a physical swing to progress in the game.
Across hardware and software
I designed custom electronics and a PCB, developed the companion iOS experience, and worked with 3D printing and laser cutting. The work connected the object in someone's hand to what happened on screen.
From prototype to a production run
The project was funded on Kickstarter, and Tony and I produced a run of 100 swords together. Smart Swords brought electronics, software, materials, and fabrication into the same product.
This is a historical product from our shared practice.
